Ben Jeffery whom Edpressive never heard of, but I guess he’s as obsessed with Houellebecq as I am says there’s a snd between what Houellebecq writes, and that he writes, and that Houellebecq is fully aware of this. There are choice quotes from David Foster Wallace whom I’ve never been all that interested in, until nowSlavoj Zizek, and Susan Sontag among others to bring Jeffery’s ideas into greater relief.

I think, although Jeffery has particular disdain for it, I will have to after many “false-starts” give Houellebecq’s The Possibility of an Island another shot. Interesting viewpoint on Houellebecq’s depreessivealthough I don’t necessarily always agree with the author lol: Most compelling were Jeffery’s dissection of modern materialist malaise, the cynicism very much in vogue at present, and of art’s role in a world of exploding Nihilism.

Hopefully Jeffery keeps writing along these lines.
