After you’ve done this try exporting the original document to PDF to see if the problem is gone but if it isn’t OK then try creating a new document and, if possible, recreate from scratch a spread and see if that one works.
It looks as one, with smooth “transition” between both pages. The middle part just doubles somehow, ruining the whole design in PDF preview.

In the spine InDesign will catch the bleed from the opposite page so you see a “doubling” of elements…. Same thing happens with custom background already made in Photoshop or just one big picture imported into InDesign, that takes up both pages.
If you export that to PDF with bleed showing you will get this below. They will cut it off while doing imposition, anyway. Have you tried resetting the workspace or creating a new workspace from any defaults?
