While certainly alluding to it several times throughout the chapters on the election and JFK’s subsequent time in office, I found Arthur Schlesinger Jr’s magisterial “Robert F. He was a charming and irreverent young man with a passion for sports and the good life This was a very balanced biography and not a gossip, hatchet job.
He has also mined many nuggets of key information from the papers of JFK’s colleagues, doctors and friends. Also interesting for its description of JFK’s life before he became president his older brother was always the more likely candidate until killed in WW2 and his health issues that were largely hidden at the time.
I think its not so much th content of the book that makes it addicting but the style of writing. He was an early advocate for developing nonmilitary techniques for combating communism in the Third World. Didn’t learn that much.
